Drone-mounted LiDAR & photogrammetric mapping

Drone LiDAR & Mapping — point clouds, orthomosaics and CAD-ready survey outputs.

High-density point cloud capture for bare-earth modelling under vegetation, powerline and corridor mapping, structural geometry and asset context. Photogrammetric orthomosaics, contours, 3D models and stockpile volumetrics on RTK / PPK workflows. Outputs in LAS, LAZ, DXF and GeoTIFF — structured for review and CAD integration.

When LiDAR beats photogrammetry.

Photogrammetry is excellent for visible surfaces. LiDAR is useful when you need ground beneath vegetation, repeatable structural geometry, low-contrast environments or measured separation between thin objects like cables and conductors.

LiDAR missions are scoped around the required output, site control and QA method. We process in-house through DJI Terra and deliver classified point clouds, contours, bare-earth DTM and cross-sections in formats your team already works with.

Typical missions: powerline corridor scans for vegetation encroachment, bare-earth surveys under tree canopy for civil design, retaining wall and stockpile geometry, narrow structures where photogrammetry struggles, and dense vegetation environments where ground capture matters.

Applications

What LiDAR is for.

Powerline

Powerline corridor scanning

Distance-to-vegetation support, conductor geometry, structure clearance and review data for transmission corridors.

Bare-earth

Bare-earth modelling

Filter vegetation returns and deliver true ground surface for civil design, hydrology modelling and contour generation.

Civil

Civil design surveys

DTM, DSM and contour generation for roads, drainage, subdivision design and earthworks pre-construction baselines.

Industrial

Structural geometry

Tank, vessel, structure and equipment geometry capture for clash detection, retrofit design and as-built modelling.

Forestry

Forestry & vegetation

Canopy height modelling, tree counts and vegetation inventory support where LiDAR is appropriate.

Mining

Mining & quarry

Pit-wall geometry, stockpile volumes with vegetation interference removed, and rehabilitation surface measurement.

Equipment

LiDAR capture — scoped to the required output.

SensorLiDAR

Drone-mounted LiDAR + RGB capture where required

Pulse rate240 kHz

Up to 240,000 pulses per second

Range450m

Detection range, 50% reflectivity

AccuracyScoped

Documented checks depend on control and terrain

Processing & QA

In-house point cloud processing through DJI Terra. Strip-to-strip alignment checks, point-density verification, intensity normalisation and classification (ground, vegetation, structure) before delivery. Custom classifications can be added on request.

Photogrammetric mapping

Useful mapping data, not pretty pictures.

A drone orthomosaic is only useful if it is georeferenced, repeatable and delivered in formats your team already works with. Miles Away Aerial captures and processes drone mapping data with RTK or PPK workflows depending on the project, delivering orthomosaics in GeoTIFF, point clouds in LAS/LAZ, contours in DXF/SHP and 3D models in OBJ or FBX.

Whether you're mapping a quarry for monthly volumetrics, a construction site for progress reporting, a council asset for dilapidation records, or a solar farm for as-built documentation, the work is scoped against your downstream workflow — not against a default capture grid.

Where cadastral or certified survey outputs are required, licensed surveyor coordination is available for ground control and final certification. Drone mapping supports the workflow; it does not replace certified survey sign-off.
